Alex : Peer Producer Alex's Profile

Alex Rollin

Title: Peer Producer

Gender: Male

Age: 32

About Me:

Since 1st grade Alex has been remodeling houses with his mother and younger brother.  In 2005 they purchased buildings 14 and 15.  Now Rushville, IL has its first Chinese food restaurant, and the restaurant leases the space from Alex's family.

Alex moved around quite a bit over the years.  He went to 3 different elementary schools, and 2 different high schools.  He left high school at 16 for college and work.  Before he was 17 he had his own apartment, 70 hours a week of work in sales and service, and a part time load at college.

After high school Alex worked with complimentary currency in schools and churches.  This work ignited his passion for service and social entrepeneurship.  The semi-enlightened company he worked for was the 4th fastest growing company in the nation during the period this period.

All the while, Alex was also the owner/operator of the hottest underground dance club in California's central valley, as well as operator of a California Style health food restaurant at a hot springs resort in the Sierra Nevada mountains, close to Yosemite.

In 1997, Alex took a role as an outside consultant with the complimentary currency company, leaving his club, restaurant, work, family, and the Central Valley behind.  As a consultant he worked with the first licensed US deployment of European SmartCard technology.  He helped design a reciprocal exchange program for local merchants as a template for nationwide deployment.

Also in 1997, he enrolled in the Robert Hutchins School Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies Program at Sonoma State University. While devouring every post-modern curricula he could get his hands on he transitioned into electrical engineering at General Instruments, an broadband technology provider to large telecommunications firms including Qwest.

General Instruments was aqcuired by Motorola during his sophomore year at Sonoma State.  Once the merger became final he moved on to Hewlett Packard's spinoff, Agilent Technologies, where he worked as a process engineer on the high frequency spectrum analyzer supply chain.

3 years later, in 2000, with his BA in hand, he opened a technology consulting company in San Francisco, enrolled in seminary in 2002, and soon found himself managing a nationwide computer network from a desk in downtown San Francisco.

2 years later in 2004, with seminary coming to a close, he nursed his itch to practice integral spiritual leadership and headed for Boulder. While working for Integral Institute, Alex became conivinced that he needed to take on the responsibilities of a node in a distributed meshwork instead of working inside organizations that may or may not move.
